Alright so I have this amazingly cool connection thing going on.
I recently got prime tickets to go see Oasis. Sweet in and of itself. Section 101 Row 8. But what I'm oddly even MORE excited about is the band that is opening for them.
About a month ago my buddy who lives in England, who we lovingly refer to as Johny English, tells me that his first cousin's band has made it big over in the UK. I'm like oh ok, that's really cool. But they not only made it big, they had the #1 song in the UK on the Billboard Charts. Apparently all of their shows sell out so fast that Johny can't even get tickets to his own cousin's show. What band is this? Well they're called the Arctic Monkeys.
They are practically unheard of here. I went to Sunrise Records to ask if their album has been released here yet, and the sales guy said "Arctic Monkeys?? I haven't heard anybody ask about them in a long time." I'm like uhhh.....they're a brand new band....lol.
However listening to my favourite station The Edge on the long ride home the other night, Bookie did an Indie Spotlight on them. And I was freaking out cause I felt like I knew them haha. Clearly I don't. But the connection is still freaking me out. They played one of their singles and they sound SO British and have been compared to The Sex Pistols, and I really liked their song.
So I asked Johny which one was his cousin. It's the cutest one in the band, a guitarist. And I'm bugging Johny to see if he can get me backstage passes through this connection. My imagination is running away with me and I'm hoping I can meet them after and be like "HEY I KNOW YOUR COUSIN." Which I'm sure would promptly be followed by an awkward silence and a polite "oh....that's nice." But if we could go out for drinks after or something...and hang out...have a night in Toronto with the opening band from Oasis...man...how awesome would that be??
Johny seems to have quite the famous connections as well. When I met him in London over the holidays, he was staying with a friend who lives in the richest part of London. I found out her parents own a successful kind of underground acting company, so her family knows a lot of well-known actors. The actor who plays the guy who owns the Moulin Rouge in that movie is her godfather. You know, the loud bohemian guy? Alan Rickman (re: Harry Potter, Robin Hood, myriad of other films) is a good friend of the family and is frequently at the house. That's INSANE...I took a picture of his friend lol. She knows famous people.
I don't know what my obsession with famous people is about. I thought it was normal till I talked to Euan about it. He reamed me out for wanting to meet someone just cause I heard they were famous. I didn't think there was anything wrong with that. He says you should like their music or them as people as a desire to meet them. Meh. Anybody have thoughts on the subject? Not that anybody leaves comments ANYWAY even though I know you read my blog??
Righto. Oasis and The Arctic Monkeys. March 20 is going to be an interesting exciting day.

Wooo look at me, I'm leaving a comment! I have to say, I understand your famous person obsession....I once spent three hours looking up Orlando Bloom on the internet. Of course, this was when I was younger.....ok, so it was four months ago. Don't judge.
In response to the previous comment, I think your Scottish friends should come here. That way, I can meet them.
OASIS MARCH 20!!!!!
