Missing: One Best Friend

Diana has left me for the land of the Scots. Not that I can really blame her...who can resist the lure of Scotland? I just hope Scotland treats her as great as it treated me. Perhaps even better...less hair pulling and alcohol poisoning...

She's gone for a whole month...but get this, as soon as she moves back she's moving to Cambridge for a year! A YEAR! Did you get that? 365 1/4 days...4 seasons...52 weeks...525,600 minutes *cue Rent soundtrack*

In a lot of ways I felt like I was saying goodbye to my best friend last night forever. I guess that happens when you grow up and people follow their own path which most often leads them away from you and your own path. *life pondering moment*

I'm going to go binge on some low fat ice cream.

Plenty Of Fish

I'm addicted to this stupid website: www.plentyoffish.com

Honestly...I can't drag myself away from it. I don't want to date anybody, and if I did I certainly would not (ok probably would not) go on a dating website...but it's fun and stuff! Sure, 90% of the people on it are as weird as that guy in highschool who asked every girl out and kept attempting stand up comedy, but there are some fun people to talk to. I like meeting new people...and stuff...

So this website is completely free, and you can email back and forth and they even have their own instant messenger. You get practically unlimited space to write what you want and put up however many pictures you want. Much better than hotornot.com, although they have the option to rate people too. Which, yes, is terribly shallow, but come on, it's a shallow society we live in.

All in all, I've found yet another means of distraction from doing work. As if this blog and msn weren't enough. Check it out if you're bored. Just remember you'll probably throw back most of the fish that you catch.

Lifehouse - Trying

Could you let down your hair
Be transparent for awhile, just a little while
To see if you're human after all

Honesty is a hard attribute to find
When we all want to seem like
We've got it all figured out

Well let me be the first to say that I don't have a clue
I don't have all the answers
Ain't gonna pretend like I do

Just trying
To find my way
Trying
To find my way the best I know how

Well I haven't memorized all of the cute things to say
But I'm working on it
Maybe I'll master this art form someday

If I quote all the lines off the top of my head
Would you believe
That I fully understand all these things I've read

I'm just trying
To find my way
Trying
To find my way
Trying
To find my way the best that I know how

Well I haven't got it all figured out quite yet but
Even if it takes my whole life to get to where I need to be
And if I should fall to the bottom of the end
I'll be one step back to you, and

I'm trying to find my way
Trying to find my way
I'm trying to find my way
Trying to find my way...

I know famous people! Sort of!

Alright so I have this amazingly cool connection thing going on.

I recently got prime tickets to go see Oasis. Sweet in and of itself. Section 101 Row 8. But what I'm oddly even MORE excited about is the band that is opening for them.

About a month ago my buddy who lives in England, who we lovingly refer to as Johny English, tells me that his first cousin's band has made it big over in the UK. I'm like oh ok, that's really cool. But they not only made it big, they had the #1 song in the UK on the Billboard Charts. Apparently all of their shows sell out so fast that Johny can't even get tickets to his own cousin's show. What band is this? Well they're called the Arctic Monkeys.

They are practically unheard of here. I went to Sunrise Records to ask if their album has been released here yet, and the sales guy said "Arctic Monkeys?? I haven't heard anybody ask about them in a long time." I'm like uhhh.....they're a brand new band....lol.

However listening to my favourite station The Edge on the long ride home the other night, Bookie did an Indie Spotlight on them. And I was freaking out cause I felt like I knew them haha. Clearly I don't. But the connection is still freaking me out. They played one of their singles and they sound SO British and have been compared to The Sex Pistols, and I really liked their song.

So I asked Johny which one was his cousin. It's the cutest one in the band, a guitarist. And I'm bugging Johny to see if he can get me backstage passes through this connection. My imagination is running away with me and I'm hoping I can meet them after and be like "HEY I KNOW YOUR COUSIN." Which I'm sure would promptly be followed by an awkward silence and a polite "oh....that's nice." But if we could go out for drinks after or something...and hang out...have a night in Toronto with the opening band from Oasis...man...how awesome would that be??

Johny seems to have quite the famous connections as well. When I met him in London over the holidays, he was staying with a friend who lives in the richest part of London. I found out her parents own a successful kind of underground acting company, so her family knows a lot of well-known actors. The actor who plays the guy who owns the Moulin Rouge in that movie is her godfather. You know, the loud bohemian guy? Alan Rickman (re: Harry Potter, Robin Hood, myriad of other films) is a good friend of the family and is frequently at the house. That's INSANE...I took a picture of his friend lol. She knows famous people.

I don't know what my obsession with famous people is about. I thought it was normal till I talked to Euan about it. He reamed me out for wanting to meet someone just cause I heard they were famous. I didn't think there was anything wrong with that. He says you should like their music or them as people as a desire to meet them. Meh. Anybody have thoughts on the subject? Not that anybody leaves comments ANYWAY even though I know you read my blog??

Righto. Oasis and The Arctic Monkeys. March 20 is going to be an interesting exciting day.
